A new, state of the art, waterfront building constructed to house the National Maritime Museum’s small boat collection explored every aspect of maritime life in purpose build surroundings. The architects and exhibition design team were appointed simultaneously to ensure the best possible integrated design process between the building and its content.
The exhibitions are housed in seven galleries, covering 2,400 square metres. Displays have been designed to rotate and enable frequent collection change. The project required extensive design team management from the outset, to achieve fully co-ordinated structure, electrical and design works. The experiential ‘Dark Gallery’ featuring large scale collections integrated with large scale AV has been nominated for several multimedia awards.
Fraser Randall acted as the project, content and design manager for the integrated shell and core and exhibition fit out of this HLF funded project.
