The UAE Pavilion in Milan represents the biggest single management project Fraser Randall has undertaken from start to finish. Two 12-metre high walls enticed visitors into the experience of the United Arab Emirates Pavilion in Milan. The winding ramp entrance resembled a canyon, with textured like sand dunes that led the way through a series of media cubes, which explained the problems the country faces with ‘feeding the planet’ and ‘energy for life’, the theme of Expo 2015. The main golden drum auditorium held a 180-degree video projection which then unveiled a digital theatre behind, incorporating a Musion foil, multi-layered projection, audio, show lighting and real moving objects.
Appointed at project inception, Fraser Randall project managed the building shell and core from ground works to completion, managing contractors from UK, China, Italy and Europe. Management roles covered client management, consultant management, content management, project management of the basebuild works, construct management of the exhibition fit-out and cost management of the entire project.
The FR team had a full-time on-site presence from June 2014 until opening in May 2015 and the pavilion accommodated over 7,000 visitors per day. Designed using LEED principals, the pavilion was demounted and reconstructed in the energy-efficient, carbon-neutral city of Masdar, UAE.
