Dubai 2020: World Expo
Expo 2020 Dubai was a global exhibition showcasing innovation, sustainability, and cultural exchange, bringing together 192 countries to share ideas and solutions for a better future. As the first World Expo held in the Middle East, it served as a platform for economic growth, technological advancements, and international collaboration, attracting millions of visitors and positioning Dubai as a global hub for innovation and investment.
Fraser Randall was commissioned by Emaar Properties to manage the costs of three signature pavilions at Expo 2020 Dubai. Appointed at Concept Design Stage, the team worked alongside the shell and core QS, overseeing all fit-out costings and ensuring financial efficiency throughout the project.
Our Role
- Provided cost management from concept to completion, including mid and end-stage cost reports, procurement advice, pre-tender estimates, and works tender packages.
- Sourced suppliers and tested the market to validate cost estimates for cutting-edge technology, fabrication, and production methods.
- Supported the design team in meeting budget constraints by delivering frequent cost reports and conducting small-scale studies on design elements.
- Leveraged construction expertise to propose alternative build solutions, maintaining design integrity without compromising on quality.
- Managed the costing and procurement of all audio-visual hardware, digital media, setworks, graphics, interactives, thematic works, and basebuild interfacing.
- Acted as Client Representative and Contract Administrator for the giant sculptures produced in New Zealand, with a dedicated team member relocated to oversee the process.
