Manga
The British Museum’s Manga exhibition celebrated one of Japan’s most influential and enduring art forms, tracing its history, cultural significance, and global reach. From romance and adventure to science fiction and fantasy, the exhibition explored manga’s wide-ranging themes and the visual storytelling techniques that have made it a multimedia phenomenon.
Alongside original artwork and interactive displays, highlights included the monumental 19th-century Shintomiza Kabuki Theatre Curtain and work from globally recognised series such as Dragon Ball Z.
Manga became the British Museum’s most visited exhibition of 2019, introducing new audiences to the form’s creative and cultural impact.
