The Old Laboratory Project

A landmark within RHS Wisley Gardens, the Old Laboratory Building has been at the heart of horticultural research and education since 1916. As part of its restoration, a new permanent exhibition was developed to celebrate its legacy—bringing history, science, and botany together for visitors.

Fraser Randall provided Cost Management, ensuring the seamless integration of the exhibition within the Grade II-listed space while maintaining rigorous budget control and value-driven decision-making.

Our Role

• Led cost management and contract administration, ensuring financial efficiency from concept to completion.

• Conducted detailed cost assessments and value engineering, securing the best value for the client.
• Coordinated the transition between the base build works and the exhibition & fit-out phase, aligning scope and technical requirements.
• Managed the full procurement process, from tender documentation to contractor selection and negotiation.
• Maintained proactive cost control during construction, mitigating financial risks and ensuring budget adherence.
